Terms of Service

Effective date: May 12, 2026

1. Acceptance of terms

By creating an account or using MapleBooks, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the service. We may update these terms from time to time; continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.

2. Account responsibilities

  • You are responsible for keeping your password secure. Use a strong, unique password. We cannot recover your account if you lose access to your email address.
  • You are responsible for the accuracy of the data you enter — transaction amounts, dates, classifications, and tax amounts. MapleBooks organizes what you put in; garbage in, garbage out.
  • You are responsible for your own tax filings. MapleBooks provides organized summaries; it is your obligation to file accurate returns with the CRA and any provincial authority.
  • You must not share your account credentials with others. Each account is for a single user.

3. Not tax advice

MapleBooks is not a licensed tax advisor, accountant, or financial planner. The calculations, summaries, and estimates presented — including GST/HST position, tax reserve targets, and T2125 line items — are for organizational purposes only, not professional tax or financial advice. They are estimates based on the data you provide and general rules of thumb; they are not a substitute for a tax-bracket calculation, legal advice, or a review by a qualified professional.

Confirm with a CPA or tax professional before filing. MapleBooks and its operators accept no liability for tax filing errors, penalties, or interest arising from reliance on figures shown in the app.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use MapleBooks for any illegal purpose, including tax evasion or money laundering.
  • Attempt to scrape, crawl, or systematically extract data from the service.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or otherwise derive source code from the service.
  • Introduce malware, spam, or any code that could harm the service or other users.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts or data.
  • Resell or sublicense access to the service without our written permission.

5. Subscription and billing

When billing is enabled, paid subscriptions are processed through Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis (monthly or annual, as selected).

  • Cancellation: you may cancel at any time from Settings → Billing. Your access continues through the end of the current paid period; no partial refunds are issued for unused time.
  • Refunds: refunds are at our discretion. If you experience a billing error, contact us at privacy@maplebooks.ca within 30 days.
  • Price changes: we will give at least 30 days' notice before raising the price of an existing plan.
  • Free tier: if a free tier is available, we may change its limits or discontinue it with 30 days' notice.

6. Termination

  • By you: you may delete your account at any time via Settings → Danger Zone. All your data will be permanently erased.
  • By us: we may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, engage in fraud, or pose a security risk to the service. We will give notice where reasonably possible. We are not liable for losses arising from termination for cause.

7. Limitation of liability

MapleBooks is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We make no guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that calculations will be accurate for your specific situation.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these terms or the service is capped at the fees you paid to MapleBooks in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages.

8. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally shall be submitted to the courts of Ontario.
